Xbox Kinect shatters records, labeled as Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device in history

Posted by on 09/03/2011

The Xbox Kinect has become such a hit that has taken top spot over Apple’s iPhone and iPad for the fastest selling consumer electronics device in history.

The achievement was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records, with about 133,333 being sold on a daily basis. Over a 60 day period, over 8 million units were sold from the 4th of November 2010 to the 3rd of January 2011. The record will be recognized in the 2012 edition of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition.

The impressive news doesn’t stop here. In total, they have sold just about 10 million Kinect units, and an equivalent 10 million Kinect games (not including those bundled in Kinect packages).

Microsoft’s launch of the Kinect was definitely done in a very timely period, just at the start of the holiday season. Sales have since died down, with only about 30,000 being sold a day now.  Nonetheless, it was still a big success for MS.

Even Gaz Deaves of the Guinness World Record was impressed saying “the sales figures here speak for themselves”

“We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
