Windows 7 reaches 10% Windows market share faster than Vista

Microsoft is reporting that Windows 7 has gone past the 10% market share of Windows users, much faster than Vista did in its time. This comes after the very positive feedback received by many new Windows 7 users. Dissatisfied Vista users needed a new OS quickly because they were frustrated with numerous problem, which led to the roll out of Windows 7.
Even though Windows 7 is climbing rapidly, it still has not reflected on the overall company’s share of the Operating System market, leaving them at a 91.6% share from a half percent fall in February. Apple has been slowly growing, adding a three tenth percent growth to their market share (OS X), putting them at 5.3% at the end of March 2010.
Within the Windows category, Vista has seen a huge slide over the past 5 months, while XP’s share fell but not by much. The shift is an obvious one, where XP and Vista users are migrating to Windows 7. XP users have also been quick to upgrade because Microsoft recently announced their decision to stop supporting XP Service Pack 2 systems. This leads them to either upgrade to Service Pack 3 or just get Windows 7. XP support will be fully stopped in April 2010, adding a further push to upgrade to 7, and maybe Windows 8 (if it comes out by then).
Mobile browsers have been on the rise with the introduction of the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows CE and other mobiles OSs. As a tech tip, webmasters should start thinking about developing more mobile friendly websites to cater for the rise in mobile browsers.
