Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 Announced

Microsoft has announced Service Pack 1 for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The patches are said to be minor and contain mainly the hotfixes issued from before via the Windows Update Manager. Remote Desktop will be updated on Server 2008 R2 to work with RemoteFX. This new functionality (for Server 2008 R2 connected systems) allows for networked PCs to enjoy a virtual desktop with features like the Aero theme, Silverlight, video play and other GPU and CPU intensive programs. RemoteFX basically adds a ton of power to the Remote Desktop Connection. However it is available via LAN only due to the amount of data that has to be transmitted.
From a business standpoint, the amount of virtual power can be controlled from the server side, reducing computing power on the desktop end, saving the company some needed dollars.
A release date for both service packs is still unknown but estimates point to the end of the year or even as late as mid 2011. Read more about virtualization here.
