Students build Laptop Xbox 360 which looks quite good

Benjamin Heckendorn, the famous Xbox to Laptop modder has inspired a few college students to create a damn good Xbox 360 Laptop. When I first saw the thumbnail of the laptop, I thought it was an Alienware shell, but it turns out everything is custom. It features a 17 inch monitor, a Jasper Xbox 360, keyboard, wireless network adapter for online gameplay and much more. Since this system is up for sale, they have thrown a couple extras such as 12 months of Xbox Live Gold access and receipts/documentation verifying its originality. This model is up for sale on eBay starting at $1,950.

Full progress posts were published on their blog documenting the step-by-step process of construction with lots of pretty pics which are viewable here.

Man forget blue ray, it will be old tech come next year when GE brings out its holo-disks. Microsoft will be smart to wait it out for a little longer to utilize that and put ps3 in the dust again.

Agreed man, no matter how awesome the PS3 is, MS is sure to come out with some innovative feature in their next console release.

HVD will not be in any system next generation for 2 main reasons. 1. expensive and 2. against microsoft policy.

1 a standard disk cost 100 dollars and a reader cost 10000 – 15000 dollars. If the ps3 lauch was mainly ruined because of the price what do you think would happen to a console which would have cost 500 dollars upwards for lowest range models to be comercially a sucess. Blue ray which readers you can by for a 100 dollars is perfect with up to 500gb space where god of war 3 is 35gb what more space would you need. Also microsoft said that the reason it didnt use blueray was because not that sony would stop but they would have to pay royalties to sony but as it thinks digital download will be bigger than dvd and blueray by the end of the 7th gen. good luck to people downloadign 50+ gb over the internet

I think the only reason anyone is actually putting down blue ray is because microsoft won’t touch it. The reason isn’t because it is bad in anyway, not because it has some base default or because it isn’t up to today’s tech lvl but because microsoft lost the HD/BluRay war. I own Xbox 360 and PS3. I got red ring of death, was sent a poorly refurbished replacement, have to pay money monthly if I want to play multiplayer (I refuse to pay) and all 360s are very loud. Microsoft dropped the ball with the 360. Love my PS3 go FF13! Only thing 360 has on PS is the fluidity exploring Xbox Live compared to the rigidness of PSN.

Back to the laptop, I think it is cool he modded his xbox to something so different.

No chance on making a slim one of these? These laptop versions are always fat and I understand why but I just wanna see if someone could do it.

Well it seems Xbox may be making a slimmed down version of their 360… http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/ben-heck-ponders-xbox-360-slim-motherboard-memory-unit-support/

It is does come to light, maybe a modder can make a slimmed down laptop comparable to the Alienware’s size. At the moment, I’m guessing the configuration won’t allow for it to be slimmer without RRODing or maybe being recognized as not being modified.
