Steve Jobs sick again

Posted by Bradley Wint on 17/01/2011

According to Reuters, Steve Jobs has filed for sick leave one again due to his continued health problems. He sent in an official letter to his board members informing them of his time off.

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

People are already making speculations that his cancer may be back, even after he had surgery done in 2004 to remove it. The NYTimes reports that close friends of Jobs thought he looked increasingly frail. The news has already caused a stir on international stock markets, falling 6% on the German stock exchange already.

Update – An anonymous source close to Jobs has mentioned that he is suffering from “ups and downs” associated with after effects of his liver transplant operation that took place back in 2009. The problem stems from his immune system not functioning properly as a side effect of the operation, but this seems to be a normal symptom associated with people having liver transplants. So all may be well for Steve, and all he may need is some due medical attention and some R&R.
