After an almost 3 week wait, Apple has finally approved the Opera Mini browser for the iPhone and iPod touch. Just a few days ago, Opera launched a counter showing how long Apple was taking to approve their app. It has gone live and will pop up in the system within 24-48 hours. They have also made it free for download.

The folks at Opera were a bit worried when they saw that more than two weeks had gone by without approval. With such a big reputation, it would have been expected that they would have been able to get it online faster, and considering that they are not taking stabs at people like Google does, it made them even more wary. Those thoughts can be put to rest now though.

The Mini brings features like data compression which saves on the amount of data send resulting in lower phone bill charges. They have also made it faster, so browsers on even the 2G class networks should see a slight increase in speed. There are a number of other minor user features, which some say make it somewhat better than Safari.

Get it in the app store today!
