New Facebook profile coming soon

For those who have not switched to the new Facebook profile, your days are numbered. Facebook has put up the notification announcing that the 500 million plus profiles will be running the new design very soon.

I for one have used it from the start of the trial period. Honestly this is the first time I have no real complaints but as usual, users are making a big fuss over the change. The biggest problem is the new photo real which displays the 5 most recent tagged pictures just below your profile information and name. The crazy thing about it is that it can be tagged with precise cut images to form one continuous bigger image (with some white spaces in between). This has lead to some abuse where folks end up getting tagged with photos saying ” I <3 MEN” or pictures of male genitalia.

Funny as it is, it’s is quite annoying and somewhat turns people off from the idea of displaying their tagged photos all together.

Another problem arises in the information box above these tagged images, right below your profile name. Now you can display where you work, your love life details, school attendance and much more right on the profile. The funny thing is that many users have surprisingly embraced this feature, but were complaining just some months ago that too much of their information was being hosted on Facebook and used against them. I’m not sure what makes this new feature any different.

There are other minor features such as reduced text size and the moving about of friends list links and so on. In my opinion, this is one update I liked but I guess you can’t satisfy everyone.

The comments section on Facebook’s blog has lit up with messages of anger and disgust, but Facebook won’t be budging any time soon.
