Microsoft has announced that it will be increasing the number of ads that free users of Skype see while making web calls.

Even though Skype has been on the road to recovery in terms of their bottom like ($7 million net loss in 2010 vs $418 million net loss in 2009), Microsoft is pushing to get more ads into the Skype client so those making voice and chat. They are currently working on placement so those ads won’t block the actual video feeds, hopefully something that is less intrusive than the ads seen on Youtube.

Microsoft’s Chief exec Steve Ballmer said there was a lot of potential to make money of more ads in Skype. Currently some users (mostly in the United States) see a limited number of ads at the top of the video panel. We hope that they do stick to their word of keep ads as least intrusive as possible.
