German government warns against using Firefox 3.6

The Federal Office for Information Security in Germany has issued a warning to its citizens to switch to an alternative to Firefox 3.6. Bürger-CERT has recommended that users switch until version 3.6.2 comes out due to a vulnerability discovered in the latest stable version. Both Mozilla’s security team and the Germans mention that hackers can use specified websites to inject malicious code into the content being browsed by the user, allowing them to take over the system.
Since 3.6.2 is in a beta stage at the moment, the security division has noted that they should wait on a final release before upgrading.
Sounds like a familiar warning. Firefox devs and security experts have advised that users shouldn’t be too hasty to switch though since going to another browser could be just an dangerous if the user doesn’t know what he/she is doing. Or is that their way of saying “Stay with Firefox cause we need market share even if it ruins your computer”?
Have something to say? 5 others did.
