If you’ve been keeping up with the happenings in the automotive sector, you’d realize that all companies are trying desperately to save as much money as possible. Ford has decided to cut down costs by managing power usage of its company’s PCs. Through their new PC Power Management program, they will centrally turn of all systems not being used on weekends and overnights. Also systems will be optimized for more efficient system updates. The main types of PCs targeted include laptops and desktops. Some systems that will remain on include the company’s Intranet and the server computers essential for 24/7 business support.
Once the power management plan is in full stream, they expect to save about $1.2 million annually and will also reduce the indirect carbon emissions by 16,000-25,000 metric tons per year. The estimates from previous years show that about 60% of employees left their systems running overnight doing nothing.
Ford’s concern for the environment and company efficiency has earned them this year’s Energy Star award yet again, making it the 5th time now they have won the coveted title.
