Details of the Florida voting database have been posted online, after a hacker by the alias of abhaxas took claim to breaking into the database and dumping the files online.

It seems the hacking fire has yet to be put out. Fingers can no longer be pointed at any one organization, because even with An0nymous and Lulzsec going underground, more hackers spring up by the day. In a number of abhaxas‘ tweets, he was proud to publish the details of the voting list which consisted of poll worker usernames and passwords, demographics, log times, candidate information and other statistics.

Here’s what he had to say about the situation via the Pastebin2 dump:

So, this is a little ironic. Here is inside details of florida voting systems. Now.. who still believes voting isn’t rigged? If the United States Government can’t even keep their ballot systems secure, why trust them at all? FAIL!

Clearly this has a number of implications for the upcoming 2012 elections, because users may start to doubt the security of the election system. While there are many forms of electoral tampering, cyber-hacking puts a whole new spin on the election process, putting many more obstacles and challenges in its way. With sites like the CIA, FBI, UK census board and others being hacked; security on the whole has to be re-analyzed. Sadly enough the hacks being used by these criminals seem to be very basic, including DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) and SQL Injections, which tell use that many so-called secure organizations are very open to attacks.
