Facebook improves Search Engine

If you’ve noticed that your Facebook search engine has stopped working, it’s because they have been working on a more improved and much faster search function. Remember when we typed in the name of a friend, their name would pop down? Now they have extended the search to include people, pages, groups and events that are included in your connected circle, not just the items on your account.

This means that if I have a friend called Susan and on her friends list she has a friend called Bob who is not your friend, you can type Bob and his name will appear in the search via the drop down. The whole point of this extended search is to improve connectivity and possibly help in expanding your network and finding friends much more easily. When I tried it, I also noticed how fast it was compared to the older search. Names and groups popped down immediately when I typed the very first letter.

The search also includes relevant links on the web powered by the Bing search engine. As usual, the function will be implemented in phases, and somehow I always seem to be the last to get these updated (had to test it out on my friend’s account).
