Download/Upload at 1Gbps for only $26, in Hong Kong though

If you thought Verizon and Cablevision’s 100Mbps Internet packages were great, you should check out the new offer by Honk Kong Broadband Network. They have downpriced their 1Gbps symmetric package to a mere US $26 per month…unbelievable! This comes after they earlier introduced a 100Mbps symmetric package for US $13 per month. The 1Gbps connection used to go at a price of about US $217 per month, which is still reasonable considering the speed.

“Symmetric 1 Gbps broadband at US$26/month (HK$199) is a global breakthrough service, and is by far the best value in terms of cost per Mbps in Hong Kong. We are pleased to contribute towards making Hong Kong a global Fibre Oasis,” said Ms June Lam, Associate Director, Marketing, HKBN.

This is what they said about their 100Mbps package back in January.

“The launch of “AWESOME SPEED. FOR EVERYONE” program on 1 November 2009, which offers symmetric 100Mbps broadband service at US$13/month (HK$99/month), has brought overwhelming market response. For the two months since launch, we have added net 38,000 broadband subscriptions. This growth rate of net 19,000/month is 3x higher than our net 6,250/month achieved during FY09.”

They gave a full spec sheet comparing the offers within Hong Kong. The flyer can be seen below. When will this come to America?!
