Delicious up for sale

In a close call, the web bookmarking tool Delicious will not be shut down, but sold to some willing buyer, says Yahoo.

After Yahoo began a massive downsizing operation, they decided to pull the plug on many services such a Delicious, MyBlogLog and AltaVista. However, Delicious was lucky enough as they decided to sell off the property rather than kill it completely. The original founders of the mentioned services were actually quite sad about the situation, and with the decision coming as a slight surprise, many who used the services were caught off-guard and expressed their anger via Twitter and Facebook.

In an update, Delicious founder Joshua Schachter has commented that he may or may not repurchase Delicious, in an effort to possibly revive it. With the social market coming down to big names like Facebook and Twitter, it would be good if some other social media outlets remained open to provide competition to the big names.

Currently he is working on a site called Tasty Labs which is all about “putting the useful back into social software”, whatever that means.

I personally hope that it is revived and reworked, so folks have alternatives to story promotion.
