A Chinese quality control organization has stated in a recent report that Hewlett Packard (HP) had manufactured and sold faulty computers, and blatantly ignored consumer protection regulations. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine mentioned that a number of recent models were affected due to defective faulty video cards, black and blue screens, crashes and excess overheating. The HP Pavilion DV2000 and Compaq Presario v3000 ranges were the main models at fault. There were also issues with 6 models having screen display problems.
According to the report, over 170 Chinese customers ended up filing complaints since 2007 after HP did not follow their stated policies of refunding, repairing or replacing. After these customers were rejected, they filed for legal action and an initial report was produced. However the government did nothing about it and their efforts went in vain.
However, they did not stop there. The group sent the report to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. The various groups have now mentioned that they will be monitoring HP’s future actions.
With regards to the current situation, HP had this to say:
“HP acknowledges the findings of the AQSIQ. We are working on a detailed action plan to ensure all points are addressed and will publicly outline this plan soon,” it said, adding its customer care program would look into its customers’ needs.
Hopefully the issues will be rectified soon, because users experiencing problems in other countries reported having little to no problems getting their systems repaired.
