China strikes back at Google by blocking Honk Kong search site

The feud between Google and China has not stopped. After Google announced redirecting Chinese traffic to its Honk Kong servers, China struck back by forcing all Chinese ISPs to block the google.com.hk URL. Google has basically screwed themselves over by hastily redirecting the traffic without thinking of the long term effects. Any efforts to re-establish a link in China have gone in vain due to their decisions. This will basically puts a huge dent in Google’s traffic because of their arrogance. Google felt the move to redirect traffic was legal, but it still did not and won’t solve the problem of China blocking their site.

The whole problem arose when a number of Google GMail accounts were hacked by sources originating from Chinese domains. Also, China had started blocking Google’s website because they felt that searches should be filtered for their citizens’ protection. Google was against filtering and felt that the Internet should be an open gateway, thus causing the never ending debacle.

China does not see Google’ s disappearing presence as a problem though since Google only maintain about 33% of the search engine in market. So what will Google do now?
