BMW integrates Facebook, Twitter and Webradio into 1 series

BMW has taken the social step by integrating popular networks such as Facebook and Twitter into its iDrive system, along with Webradio.

From the promo video, it seems that you can plug in your smartphone (Android, iPhone, etc.) and get connected via the iDrive menu. You will be able to scroll through statuses, check messages and tweets, like messages and more. The obvious intention would be to get users more connected while on the road, but is this BMW’s way of just trying to sell more cars by appealing to the social savvy crowd?

The social option rolls out on their new 1 series Coupe and Convertible models, which makes sense because this car is aimed towards the young people just started out in life. The feature should hopefully be extended to the rest of the product line in upcoming iterations of each model.

The only hope is that drivers won’t try to be social while driving, because we know how lots of you believe it’s easy to text or be online while driving. Also, we hope that drivers don’t just sit in their cars on these social networks over going to actual parties.

Check out the video below for more details.
