The Anon “hactivist” group has made the decision to take out and completely destroy Westboro Baptist Church’s website, after they expressed much hate towards the beliefs of the cult.

The Westboro Baptist Church, which has promoted hate against the homosexual community (with its popular slogan “God Hates Fags”), and also supports the killing of young children, recently came under fire for its comments made with regards to the Tuscon, Arizona killing spree where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot and almost killed. The Anonymous group has since then decided to go all out on the church group by hacking their website and permanently destroying all the data on its servers. I have to wonder if they have not started already because the site has been quite slow to load today.

The Anonymous final warning goes like this:

ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.

Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines.

The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you.

The threats seems quite realistic, but Westboro Baptist Church issued a strongly worded response to the group (in PDF format) below.

Even Megan Phelps-Roper the grand daughter of the group’s founder Fred Phelps, issued her annoyance with Anon.

Thanks, Anonymous! Your efforts to shut up God’s word only serve to publish it further. God did that! Our response to you? Bring it, cowardsFebruary 19, 2011 9:09 pm via Twitter for iPhone

Others have been poking fun at Anon as well.

Like Nimrod, AnonNerds think they build tower to heaven and unseat God. No go, BoBo! God (unlike Gore) did in fact create internet for WBCFebruary 20, 2011 2:49 pm via web

With Anonymous having such a good record of actually carrying out their threats, it seems these rebuttals on the part of the Westboro followers will only add to the fire. Now we wait and see if Westboro’s website gets vandalized.
